Economics

About the Course

Economics is the study of how humans manage their resources.

Some of these resources are natural (such as water, oil or land), some are created by humanity (such as money, intellectual property and consumer goods), while others are created by governments (such as education, healthcare or pensions). This course examines the production, exchange and distribution of these resources between people, groups and countries. Microeconomics studies economic exchanges between individuals and firms, while macroeconomics studies aggregate economic outcomes, such as economic growth, unemployment and public spending. This makes economics both a fascinating and a complex subject to study, and it draws on a range of other disciplines in order to make sense of the economy: mathematics and statistics are vital for modelling economics, while history, politics, geography and psychology all help economists understand why things are the way they are. Our Economics A-level introduces you to the basic principles of economics, and is a good choice for students thinking about pursuing the study of economics, finance, history or politics at university. It is also a strong subject for those thinking about entering the world of business or working in government, where the knowledge and skills gained in the study of economics can prove to be particularly helpful.
