  • Art Scholarship

    Art Scholarship (16+) 2022

    At WLFS, the Art Department is looking for committed young people who meet the normal academic requirements of the school but who also demonstrate a strong artistic sensibility through creativity, imagination and independence. Applicants should also be able to show an appreciation of visual culture in the world around them that goes beyond the daily school curriculum. Having registered for the Sixth Form, students can then apply for this exciting new Art Scholarship.

    Entry Requirements 

    • All candidates must first meet the academic requirements for entry to the Sixth Form
    • A strong interest in pursuing Art or a creative subject beyond school
    • A minimum of a Level 8 or 9 in Art at GCSE
    • Portfolio Submission (as 10 images on PPT/PDF): Examples of work done in school and evidence of work done and outside the curriculum
    • Short Interview with the Head of Co-Curricular and Head of Art
    • A 100-word review of a recent art exhibition you have been to (to be emailed with Portfolio)
    • 50 word statement saying why you are applying for the scholarship and what you could bring to the role.
    • Studying History of Art A Level is desirable but certainly not essential

    Specific Benefits 

    • Having access to an exciting and inspiring range of activities and programmes
    • Membership to Tate gallery for 2 Years (+ guest)
    • A1 Art Portfolio in second year
    • Contribution to Tickets/Transport for London exhibitions organised by the school (up to a certain amount and if not free)
    • Helping with funding for an international art trip (means dependent)
    • Access to Higher Education Facilities or Internship (where possible)
     

    Expectations 

    • Being representative of the Art Department and promoting the subject. Helping with:
    • Open Evenings
    • The delivery of an Assembly/Talk on the Arts to the 6th Form/Lower School
    • Running a workshop/activity for KS4 / a KS3 club
    • Engaging with a mentoring programme with Yr11 Art students
    • Curating an exhibition programme at the Sixth Form site / Designing posters for Art exhibitions
    • Organising a community art-based project at the school or in the local community e.g., mural

    • The Art Scholarship will continue from Year 12 into Year 13, subject to satisfactory academic progress and conduct, and provided the recipient remains actively engaged in Art at The West London Free School.
     

    Key Dates for Art Scholarship process (September 2022)

    4pm 1st September: Portfolio submission deadline with 100 word written review and 50 word statement (via email to Head of Art) W/b 12th September: Successful applicants invited to interview W/b 19th September: Applicants informed of outcome
