16-19 Bursary

The 16-19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help students overcome specific barriers to participation so they can remain in education.

The fund is from money given to post-16 providers by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA)

Eligibility is based on the student meeting residency requirements with priority given to those on a means-tested or disability benefit.

There are two types of bursary available:

  1. Those awarded to higher-priority claimants (in specified vulnerable groups) who will receive a guaranteed bursary of up to £1,200 per year from the school.
  2. Those awarded to middle- and lower-priority claimants to meet individual needs. For example, to help with the cost of transport, school lunches, books and equipment.

The school is responsible for managing both types of bursary. Students who want to apply for support from the Bursary Fund should complete and submit an application form by 30th September 2020. Applications after this date can be submitted, but the bursary, unless there are exceptional circumstances, will not be backdated.

For further guidance notes, including details of eligibility our policy can be viewed here (Bursary Fund Policy.pdf) and an application form can be accessed here, Bursary Application Form If you believe your student is eligible for a bursary (either guaranteed or discretionary), please complete the application form and send it, along with supporting evidence, to the Sixth Form Registrar, Lucy Frederick.
